How a woven fabric is built
A woven fabric combines lengthwise and crosswise yarns. Their arrangement, thickness and finish affect the texture you see and feel. Similar-looking fabrics may still use different fibres and have different care needs.
Texture in a room
A more pronounced weave can add visual depth, while a smoother surface can provide contrast. Repeat a colour across the room and vary the texture to create a connection without making every piece identical.
Separate appearance from performance
A fabric that looks like linen is not necessarily pure linen. A soft fabric is not automatically stain resistant. Read the fibre information and any stated performance information rather than assuming those properties from a style name.
Before cleaning
Check the care label, whether the cover is removable and whether an insert is included. Follow the specified temperature and drying method. If information is missing, ask before using a cleaner or a washing machine.
