Take stock first
Look at the pieces you already own and decide what the room needs. Better lighting, less clutter or a different arrangement may make a useful change before you buy anything. Keep the pieces you enjoy using.
Change one layer
A throw, cushion cover or smaller decorative object can shift the mood with little disruption. Use one colour already present in the room as a link, then add a second tone in a modest amount.
Store with care
Clean seasonal textiles according to their labels and make sure they are fully dry before storing. Keep them in a suitable dry place away from direct light and moisture. Avoid forcing a bulky item into a space that damages its shape.
Choose for more than one season
Check the material, size and care requirements as carefully as the appearance. A piece that works with several existing combinations is often easier to use throughout the year than something chosen only for a single photograph.
